4 Restaurants A restaurant is an establishment which prepares and serves food and drinks and customers pay for it. Restaurants offer regular meals such as breakfast, lunch and dinner or special meals at occasions as weddding, birthday and graduation. Obr. 1

5 Types of restaurants Restaurants often specialize in certain types of food. We can go and eat in ethnic restaurants : French, Asian, Indian, Mexican etc., seafood restaurant : they sell food taken from the sea, vegetarian restaurants : they sell food not including meat, fast food restaurants : they sell hamburgers, pizzas, fried chicken. 6 Restaurant´s employees and staff The waiter or waitress takes the orders and serves meals. The maitre d´ welcome customers and seats them. The bartender (barman) prepares and serves drinks at the bar. The head chef is responsible for food. The sommelier is wine professional. Obr. 3

7 Mealtimes Meal is prepared food that takes place at a specific time. Common meals are: Breakfast Brunch Lunch Tea Dinner Supper Obr. 4 Brunch is a late-morning meal, usually larger than a breakfast and usually replacing both breakfast and lunch; it is most common on Sundays.

8 Breakfast Breakfast is a meal eaten in the morning. Classic breakfast in England is called „full English breakfast“ and consist of fried, scrambled or poached eggs bacon and sausages mushrooms tomatoes beans bread or toast Toast with marmalade or jam and cereals with youghurt are now more common breakfast in England. 9 Tea Afternoon tea is a small meal snack typically eaten between 4pm and 6pm. Afternoon tea is accompanied by cucumber and ham sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and usually cakes and pastries (such as fruit cakes). Tea can refer to any of several different meals or mealtimes. High tea is the evening meal or dinner of the working class, typically eaten between 5pm and 7pm. High tea typically consists of a hot dish such as fish and chips, cheese, followed by cakes and bread, butter and jam. Obr. 6

10 A multicourse meal 1.The meal begins with starter. It is usually small and light. 2.Next comes a soup. 3.The main course is the most important and is the largest meal. 4.Next comes the salad course and cheese course. 5.The meal often culminate with a dessert.
