2 Past Continuous - tvar You were studying when she called.
Were you studying when she called? - Yes, I were. You weren´t (were not) studying when she called. It was working. Was it working? - No, it wasn´t. It wasn´t (was not) working. V minulém čase průběhovém nerozlišujeme slovesa na pravidelná a nepravidelná.

3 Past Continuous - použití
1) Slouží pro popis prostředí či atmosféry, k vyjádření několika současně probíhajících dějů. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. While Ellen was reading, Tim was watching television.

2) Vyjadřuje děj, který probíhal v určitý okamžik v minulosti. Last night at 6 pm, I was eating dinner. At midnight, we were still driving through the desert. Yesterday at this time, I was sitting at my desk at work.

3) Minulý čas průběhový často stává v souvětích s časem prostým. V těchto větách označuje déle trvající děj, který popisuje událost vyjádřenou časem prostým. When the phone rang, she was writing a letter. Sammy was waiting for us when we got off the plane. Ve větách se vyskytují spojky when nebo while. While John was sleeping last night, someone stole his car. What were you doing when the earthquake started?

6 Past Continuous and Past Simple
Minulý prostý čas ukazuje na počátek nebo konec nějakého děje, zatímco minulý průběhový poukazuje na proces. Last night I ate dinner. (I started/finished eating last night). Last night at 8 pm, I was eating dinner. (I started earlier; and at 8 pm, I was in the process of eating dinner.)

8 Imagine: During a party the lights suddenly went out. For twenty minutes, the house was in pitch darkness. What were the people doing when the blackout happened? Remember: What were you doing - yesterday at 6 a.m./ 9:30 a.m./ p.m./ 7 p.m./ 11 p.m.?

9 Find six mistakes: A few years ago, my friend and I were travel through Europe. We visited several countries including the Czech Republic. People there was generaly friendly, but they are careless drivers. An accident was happened to me when we drove along the motorway to Moravia. A driver speeding in his car hit our rear bumper. When we were getting out of the damaged car we discover that the driver were drunk.
