Anotace: Pracovní list slouží k zopakování použití minulého času prostého (Past Simple) a minulého času průběhového (Past Continuous), jejich procvičení a upevnění správného užití. Metodické pokyny: Nejprve si žáci zopakují typická užití obou těchto časů, poté mají příležitost si užití upevnit za pomoci překladů.

Past Simple – Usage We use Past Simple when we want to say that something happened in the past. The action is finished and we often say when something happened. pastpresent future I met a friend of mine two day ago. (The action is completed and finished.) Two year ago I bought a car. (Again the action is completed.)

Past Continuous – Usage We use Past Continuous when we want to say that something was happening at a certain time in the past. The action was not finished. past start endpresent future 7:00 9:00 At 9 o'clock I was watching a great film about dogs. (I was in the middle of watching, the activity was not finished.) This time last week I was travelling to Japan. (My travelling started before and was not finished yet.)

Past Simple – Usage We use Past Simple when we want to say that one thing happened after another I saw her (1), I told her everything (2) and I left (3).

Past Continuous – Usage We use Past Continuous when we want to say that two or more things were happening at the same time. This is often use for describing background information. Students were writing a test, the teacher was looking out of the window and parents were waiting outside. (All these things were happening at the same time.)

Past Simple and Past Continuous – Usage together Sometimes we use both Past Simple and Past Continuous in one sentence. This happens when we want to say that something (short) happened while something else (longer) was happening. The longer activity is often interrupted by the shorter one. We were eating lunch when he came. (Eating was happening for longer time and then at one moment he came.)
