London – Places of Interest II there are lots of places of interest in London there is a list of sights and places of interest mentioned in this presentation: The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Globe, The National Gallery, Trafalgar Square

The Tower of London the first stone castle built in England it was build by William the Conqueror in 1066 it’s situated on the north bank of the river Thames in central London it has served as an armoury, a treasury, a prison and it’s the home of the Crown Jewels

Tower Bridge was built between 1886 - 1894 is next to the Tower of London crosses the river Thames in central London opens in the middle so that the bigger ships can go through – it’s a hydraulic mechanism consists of 2 towers and 2 walkways at the upper level

St. Paul’s Cathedral a Church of England Cathedral built in a baroque style by Christopher Wren in 1708 there took place some funerals and weddings, the most famous was the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana very famous part of the Cathedral is the Whispering Gallery

The Globe originally built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614 and demolished in 1644 it was Shakespeare’s Theatre Lord Chamberlain’s Men – playing company acted there (the member was W. Shakespeare) it was newly built and opened to the public in 1997 it stands 230 meters away from the original theatre

Trafalgar Square it’s public place in central London in the middle there is Nelson’s Column guarded by four lion statues the name reminds of the Battle of Trafalgar – British naval victory against Napoleon in 1805 by Admiral Nelson there are also 2 fountains and some statues

Trafalgar Square II the fountains have LED lighting system and they can project many different colour combinations the square is favourite place for gathering of people, especially for political demonstrations or the celebration of New Year’s Eve it used to be famous for lots of peagons that were fed by tourists

The National Gallery it’s an art museum on Trafalgar Square was founded in 1824 houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900 the entry to the main collection is free of charge some examples of famous painters who are exhibited in National Gallery: Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Michelangelo, Titian, etc.
