Habitual actions in the past Past simple – I usually got home late. Used to – Before I had a car, I used to cycle to work. Would – Every summer they would take us to the seaside. Describes habitual action when accompanied by a frequency expression. Refers to past action which no longer happen or vice versa. Not used in questions and negatives and only refers to actions, not situations.
