John Ronald Reuel Tolkien ( ) English writer, poet and philologist Professor of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) and English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford author of number of stories, including the most famous The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa, to English parents. At the age of three his mother brought him and his younger brother back to England into the village Sarehole, outside the city of Birmingham.
Tolkien completed his degree at Oxford in 1915 and in 1916 he married his longtime friend Edith Bratt.
In the World War I Tolkien was sent to the Western Front. Perhaps the imagination for the wastelands of Mordor may have had birth in the muddy horrors of the Western Front.
Tolkien's first job was as a lexicographer on the New English Dictionary. Then he became a professor of English Language at the University of Leeds until 1925, when he took a position of teaching Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University. In Leeds Tolkien collaborated on the famous edition of 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'.
In 1917 J.R.R. Tolkien began working on his epic - "The Silmarillion". The Silmarillion, the heart of all Tolkien’s mythology, is a work that he continually revised, until his death in 1973.
J.R.R.Tolkien began to build a story about a short creature who inhabited a world called Middle-earth. It grew into a story and he talked it to his children and in 1937 „The Hobbit, or There and Back Again“ was published.
The Lord of the Rings appeared in in three parts: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King and soon became a good seller. However, it was in 1965 when the book was published in America, that it really took off becoming an international bestseller.

The most famous film processing The Lord of the Ring is film trilogy by Peter Jackson. All three films were recorded on New Zealand. Beautiful countryside, famous music by Howard Shore and fidelity of Tolkien´s books guaranteed global success. The last film of the trilogy got 11 Academy Awards (Oscars).
