Ernest Hemingway born on July 22 in 1899 in Illinois raised by his parents Clarence and Grace Hemingway lived together in the suburb of Chicago (rather conservative at that time) spent a lot of time in a cabin situated in Northern Michigan, where he learnt how to hunt and fish and his great love of wildlife was born during his high school studies, he worked on school newspapers called Trapeze and Tabula, where he was primarily interested in sports 1

Army experience during the WWI Hemingway joined the Italian army as a volunteer served as an ambulance driver soon after joining the army he was seriously wounded he was transported to hospital in Milan, where he had a romantic affair with Agnes von Kurowsky she agreed to get married to him but later left him for another man, which deeply hurt his feelings inspiration for his great novel A Farewell to Arms Agnes von Kurowsky agreed to get married to him but later left him for another man

Coming home he came back from the war at the age of 19 the horrors of the war considerably influenced his way of thinking and conception of the world his parents failed to understand the evil he went through during the war and wanted him to get a job or go to college they had idealized images of war and war heroes
Paris and the Lost Generation after his return home, he started working for Toronto Star Weekly married his first wife Hadley Richardson and moved to Paris in 1921 it was in Paris that he became a member of the so-called Lost Generation worked as an European correspondent for Toronto Star Daily
Lost Generation a term introduced/coined by Gertrude Stein a community of expatriate writers and artists living in post-war Paris a group of people whose early adulthood was profoundly shaped by their war experience dealt with post-war disillusionment and the loss of ideals, hope and traditions explored the possibilities of modernist writing The Lost Generation included writers and artists such as Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound and John Dos Passos or Francis Scott Fitzgerald inspiration for his first novel The Sun Also Rises
Later life in 1937 he went to work as a reporter in the Spanish Civil War gained inspiration for his another novel For Whom the Bells Toll, which as an instant success he moved to Havana in Cuba in 1953 Hemingway won the Pulitzer Prize for his influential novel The Old Man and the Sea and in 1954 the Nobel Prize for Literature
A great author and his last years Hemingway became addicted to alcohol his heavy drinking habit worsened his mental and physical health suffered from severe depression and mood swings was treated with electric shocks in the morning of July 2 in 1961, he woke up early and committed suicide
