Third Conditional – Usage We use Third Conditional when we want to say what would have been the result of an unreal (nereálné) condition in the past (what would have happened if something else had happened – but it did NOT happen). The if clause is in past perfect, in the main clause we uses would have + past participle There is a comma between the clauses if we start with the if clause. If I had know you were in hospital, I would have visited you. (But I did not know you were in hospital so I did not visit you.) I would have helped you if you had asked me. (But I did not help you because you did not ask me)
Third Conditional - Examples I would have ivited you if I had had your number. If you had taken the map, we wouldn't have got lost. You'd have won if you'd tried harder. She wouldn't have kicked you if you hadn't kissed her boyfriend. If you had studied more, you would not have got 5. If they had known about it, they would have warned us.

Third Conditional – How it really was- Rules 1) Each of you will need a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. 2) On the screen you will see a short conversation between two friends almost all in third conditional. 3) Your task is to rewrite the conversation without using the third conditional at all. In other words you should write what really happened (e.g. „If you had taken the map, we would not have got lost“ will change into „You did not take the map so we got lost“) 4) The three first people with correctly rewritten conversation will be the winners :)
Third Conditional – How it really was- Story A: If you hadn't invited me for the bloody party, all these terrible things wouldn't have happened to me. B: Well, if I Julie hadn't invited me I'd not have invited you. A: Well, if you hadn't fallen in love with her, you'd not have wanted to go there at all. B: But if we hadn't gone there, you wouldn't have met this beautiful blond girl. A: Yeah, but if I hadn't met her, I wouldn't have met her Rambo-like boyfriend neither. B: Well, if you hadn't stared all the time at her chest, he wouldn't have beaten you so badly...
