Rome was ruled by emperor Claudius, who wasn´t much popular with people. C laudius´s wish was to have a strong and big army and expected men to join voluntarily. But men didn´t want to fight in wars and leave their families or girlfriends. Therefore not many men signed up. Claudius was furius and got a crazy idea - weddings were prohibited because he thought that men would join his army more willingly. WHO WAS VALENTINE? It was dangerous but truly exciting. In a small candlelit room just bride and groom with Valentine were the only witnesses of a secret ceremony.
