2 Úřad pro obrannou standardizaci, katalogizaci a státní ověřování jakosti Odbor obranné standardizace 2 Fields of standardization A - Operational – A - Operational – NATO standardization documents that affect military practices, and may apply to doctrines, tactics, techniques, procedures, training, reporting, maps and charts. B - Materiel – B - Materiel –NATO standardization documents that specify the materiel common technical requirements throughout its life cycle. Materiel may embrace complete systems, including consultation, command and control (C3) systems, weapon-systems and sub-systems, interfaces, assemblies, components, spare parts and consumables, including ammunition, fuel, and supplies. C - Administrative C - Administrative –NATO standardization documents that facilitate Alliance administration in various areas including, but is not limited to, terminology, finances, human resources and military ranks. 4 Úřad pro obrannou standardizaci, katalogizaci a státní ověřování jakosti Odbor obranné standardizace 4 A standardization agreement is a NATO standardization document that specifies the agreement of member Nations to implement a standard, in whole or in part, with or without reservation, in order to meet an interoperability requirement. A STANAG will cover only such standards, for which is possible to define particular interoperability requirement. (e.g. dimensions and parameters of mechanical locks, hooks, external cargo carrying slings or electrical connectors) STANAG - STANdardization AGreement

7 Úřad pro obrannou standardizaci, katalogizaci a státní ověřování jakosti Odbor obranné standardizace 7 A Standardization recommendation is a NATO standardization document used exclusively in the materiel field of standardization, that lists one or several NATO or non-NATO standards relevant to a specific Alliance activity unrelated to interoperability. A STANREC will cover only such materiel standards, for which a STANAG is not necessary (e.g. data bus for aircraft internal systems connection) STANREC - STANdardization RECommendation

9 Úřad pro obrannou standardizaci, katalogizaci a státní ověřování jakosti Odbor obranné standardizace 9 Allied Standards are standards developed or selected in the framework of the NATO standardization process. They include NATO standards (NATO STDs) and standards used by NATO (non-NATO STDs), but developed elsewhere. NATO STDs are a stand-alone standardization documents, formatted and published as an Allied publication (AP) or Multinational publication (MP). Non-NATO STDs are developed outside NATO. This includes civil standards, national or multinational defence standards, selected for their suitability to meet an Allied Standard criteria. (ISO, IEEE, EN, MILs,…). Standard-Related Documents (SRD) are standardization documents that facilitates understanding and implementation of one or more Allied Standards. When produced by NATO, a SRD is formatted and published as an AP or an MP. (Source: AAP-3(J)(2)) NATO Standards categories

They are formatted, structured, and given a short title in accordance with AAP-32(B). They should be developed in such a way as to ensure its widest distribution to users within NATO member Nations, and wherever possible, users from Partner Nations and cooperating external bodies or Nations. There is a specific category of publications that meet the requirements of joint operations: the Allied joint publications (AJPs). Allied Publication - AP
