4 Briefly: We use them there where we need resistance against chemical or weather attack or against corrosion. On those places should not interfere resistance against temperatures or solvent, lower hardness, partial flammability or difficult recyclability. Plastics are either:  Hard or solid (fragile)  Hard or flexible (elastic) Or  Elastic.

5 Important qualities of plastics: (+) Resistant against chemical, corrosive or weather effects Decorative (surface, whole profile) Light They don´t conduct electricity or heat/cold much (-) Lower hardness or resistance against heat Partially they burn or fume They do not resist some solvent Difficult recyclability

6 Classification of plastics according to their usage: Hard solid Hard flexible Elastic

7 Tests (of usability): mechanical thrust (flexibility, hardness, cold creep) hardnessobr. heat / cold (shape stability, brittleness) friction

8 Summary: Granulated material is mostly feedstock for ThermoPlastics and Elastomers. ReactoPlastics are usually in powder form or liquid form, or they might be also mixed into a paste. We process plastics either as intermediate material for further processing or directly to completed product.

9 ACTIVITY I.: Decide and choose the best solution of the problem: 1.) Product is going to be used as tool handle which will be used for strong and frequent tightening of a nut in external working environment. Will you use plastic?
