4 Meaning of gearbox:  Multiplication of torque  Change of revolutions of driven shaft  To choose suitably gearbox ratio  Direction change of revolutions or way Usage of gearbox: Lathes, cars

5  Driving shaft– It is driven by engine  Driven shaft– It is driven by driving shaft  Driving shaft gear  Driven shaft gear

6  Driving shaft – Driven by engine - Gears are firmly fixed - Gears rotate only with shaft  Driven shaft – Driven by driving shaft - Gears are free-fitted - Shaft and wheels can turn (rotate) individually

7 Engine torque is multiplied by ratio i=D2/D1 i - ratio  D 1 – Driving shaft diameter  D 2 – Driven shaft diameter  i<1 Step-up gear  i>1 Reduction gear M V = i. M  M V – Final torque M- Engine torque
