26 Annotation AIDS is the virus disease. AIDS means „acquired immune deficiency syndrome“. GRIDS was the first name of the disease. It means that the immune deficiency associated with homosexuality. 4H was the second name of AIDS. Then they chose the name AIDS in The disease originated from African monkeys. Professor Robert Gall from the USA discovered the name of the HIV virus. HIV means human immunodeficiency virus. There are types of HIV – „HIV one“ and „HIV two“. It is a failure of the white blood corpuscles. Symptoms of this disease are similar to influenza symptoms. People can become infected from blood, sperm, vaginal secretion or from breast milk.

The virus goes through four periods and then it turns into AIDS. Nobody will find out if somebody is ill. We can do the test for AIDS. There is no cure for AIDS at present. But we can treat HIV with combination therapy. The person is ill, when the HIV test is positive. There are many organizations in the world to help people with this disease. ČSAP and ACET are the most famous Czech organization and WHO is the most famous international organization. The Red ribbon is an international logo of AIDS. It is a logo for hope.

We celebrate The world day of AIDS on December 1st every year. We know that AIDS is a threat for all the world.
