3 MIDDLE AGES, RENAISSANCE
One of the oldest towns in Bohemia, major construction activity went on Hradec was a dowry town of Queens of Bohemia Two landmarks of note include the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the White Tower

4 THE HOLY SPIRIT CATHEDRAL
Obr.1 Its construction began in the 14th century Finished in 1360s under Queen Elizabeth of Pomerania Originally Gothic style A triple nave church with a long presbytery In 17 th century promoted to a cathedral Restored in 19th century during Gothic Revival Material used-bricks

5 WHITE TOWER Obr.2 Height:72 meters
Constructed in the 16th century in Renaissance style thanks to donations Third largest bell called Augustin in the Czech republic is housed inside Constructed from white sandstone Night tours available on some days

6 20th CENTURY After Austrian army was defeated at the Battle of Hradec Králové, its huge fortifications were torn down and the town began to develop quickly At the beginning of the 20th century a zoning plan was worked out and fine urbanism was put in place First two decades of the 20th century saw major construction activity
