SOCIAL PROBLEMS Even highly developed societies face problems of unemployment, homelessness, poverty and crime. Human rights issues are a global problem. People are discriminated against because of nationality, race, gender or religion. Terrorism and local wars are closely connected. EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/34.0154

PROBLEMS OF THE ENVIRONMENT Air pollution Air is polluted by gases from factory chimneys, coal burning power plants, car exhaust fumes… Acid rains are caused by sulphur dioxide from coal burning power stations and other gases from car exhaust fumes. Acid rains kill fish in lakes and destroy trees and other plants. Ozone holes in ozone layer, which protects the Earth from UV radiation, are caused by chemicals used in aerosols, air conditioning, refrigerators…. Greenhouse effect and global warming is caused by a great concentration of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere which means that the Earth temperature is increasing. This could lead to melting glaciers in the poles and rising sea levels, also unpredictable weather in the form of floods or droughts, hurricanes or tornadoes… EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/34.0154

Land pollution Water pollution Land is polluted by chemicals used in agriculture and especially by growing amounts of waste that our commercial societies produce. More and more landfill areas are needed. And what’s more, some waste is toxic and dangerous to people, animals and plants. Water pollution Water is polluted by waste water from factories, sewage waste and chemicals leaking into or disposed in rivers, seas, oceans. Cutting down forests - deforestation Tropical rain forests are being cut down because people need wood and more land for agriculture and building. Many plants and animals are in danger of extinction. Killing off animals Some animals are endangered because they are hunted and killed by poachers to make profit.
