ERNEST HEMINGWAY´S LIFE E. Hemingway was one the greatest American writers of the 20th century. He was born on 23rd July 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois as the second of six children. His father taught him a love of nature and the outdoor life. Mother taught him a love of music and art. He was good at scholl and he wrote for the school newspaper. Hemingway graduated in 1917.
Hemingway worked as a journalist for the Star nwspaper. After six months he left to war because he was fascinated by war. He had wanted to become a soldier. In the First World War he became an abulance driver for the American Red Cross. He was also injured. In the 1930s he became a war correspondent in the Spanish Civil War.
E. Hemingway was married four times. He also moved to Florida where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and drinking. He suffered from depression. In 1954 he was awarded The Nobel Prize for literature. In 1961 he committed suicide.
THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA The setting of this novel is Cuba. It is the story of an epic battle between an old experienced fisherman and a large marlin. This action covers a very short period of time.
