3 Football = foot + ball. Football or soccer is collective ball game which is the most popular collective sport in the world. This game was born in England. Laws of the Game were originally codified in England by The Football Association in 1863. Birth of football

4 FIFA Football Association is governed internationally by the International Federation of Association Football – FIFA. It is association for all countries in the world. Its seat is Zurich. In Europe it is The Union of European Football Associations – UEFA Each continent has got its own confederation.

5 International competitions The major international competition in football is the World Cup, organised by FIFA. This competition takes place over every four years. There has been a football tournament at every Summer Olympic Games since 1900. After the World Cup, the most important international football competitions are the continental championships. The most prestigious competitions in club football are the respective continental championships, which are generally contested between national champions, for example the UEFA Champions League in Europe and Copa Libertadores de América in South America. The winners of each continental competition contest the FIFA Club World Cup.

6 Rules Football is played on the football pitch It is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by kicking the ball into the opposing goal. The game has got two halves and one half last 45 minutes.

7 Domestic competitions The five top European leagues – the Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy), the Bundesliga (Germany) and Ligue 1 (France) – attract most of the world's best players.

8 Czech players Some Czech players are in the clubs in other countries, f.e. our goalkeeper Petr Čech plays in FC Chelsea and Tomáš Rosický in FC Arsenal.

9 Best player in history In history there were many excellent football players. But for a lot of people and football fans the best one was bresilien footballer PELÉ.

10 Recent best player Every year, the best player in the season gets an award Golden ball. Lionel Messi has got this prise and so he is the best present footballer.
