2 The Royal Route Can you find the Royal Route on the map? No What is the Royal Route? It is the most beautiful sightseeing route in the city of Prague

3 What does the Royal Route mean? It is a route that the Czech kings passed in a procession to their coronation in the St. Vitus Cathedral at the Prague Castle, which was the spiritual centre of the kingdom.

4 Where did the route start? in Royal Court – used to be a comfortable residence for rullers since the peak period of the Middle Ages on the place of current Municipal House in Republic Square Obr.1

5 Towards Prague Castle Celetná Street links the Republic Square with the Old Town Square one of the oldest streets in Prague in cellars of many buildings there are the foundations of Romanesque and Gothic buildings

6 Old Town Square the large square in the centre of the Old Town it used to be a wide marketplace culturally and historically significant place the place of many celebrations, knights’ tournaments, gatherings and bloody executions Obr.2

7 Towards Prague Castle Malé Square - Karlova Street - Křížovnické Square Karlova Street used to be an important business connection the marketplace of Old Town Square with the stone Judith Bridge nowadays – the most frequented tourist routes through Prague.

8 Charles Bridge the stone bridge with 16 arches built in 1357 decorated with excellent 31 sculptures most of them belong to the best works of Central-European Baroque sculpture a trio of protective towers is a part of the bridge complex Obr.3

9 Malostranské Square it used to be a marketplace the square was divided by the complex of St. Nicholas Church and Jesuits College the lower part has a civil character with tram traffic the upper part became a calm aristocratic area Obr.4 Obr.5

10 Nerudova Street it used to be much narrower street with timber beans on the steeply sloped ground named after Jan Neruda who was born and lived there it is unique with historic porches, doors, locks and door signs Obr.6

11 Towards Prague Castle Úvoz – Pohořelec – Loretánské Square Shortcut the road from Nerudova Street leading directly to the Castle was cut out in the stone in 17th century

12 Prague Castle one of the largest castle complexes in the world the St. Vitus Cathedral - the largest and the most significant Prague cathedral it houses the crown jewels, bodily remains of Czech kings, precious religious relics and artefacts, art treasures and historical documents Obr.7 Obr.8
