5 Australia´s National Day January 26th is Australia Day, Australia´s National Day. On this date in 1788, eleven ships from Great Britain arrived in Australia. That was the beginning of European settlement. People celebrate history and life in Australia. It´s a public holiday, so they don´t go to work. They usually have a barbecue or some kind of party. Australian are very proud of their country. Australia is one of the friendliest countries in the world for tourists. They love saying „G´day“ (Australian for „hello“) to visitors.
