The United Kingdom The UK has got four parts: 1. England 2. Scotland
3. Wales 4. Northern Ireland The country is officially known as The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Edinburgh - Capital The capital is the historical town of Edinburgh.
There is Edinburgh Castel that was home of Scotland´s royal family until 1603 when the king James moved the throne to London. Tourist attractions are Holyrood House and Royal Mile.

Glasgow The biggest Scottish city is Glasgow.
The city is the fifth populous in the United Kingdom. It is situated on the River Clyde. There is The University of Glasgow from 15th century.

Scotland is one part of The UK but in Scotland elected its new national assembly. This is the first time in 3OO years that Scotland has had its own parliament. Its seat is in Edinburgh. The Scottish flag is blue and white and it is the St Andrew´s cross.

People Scots speak English and in some parts Scottish Gaelic as well.
The typical instrument is the pipe and a typical Scot is dressed in a pleated tartan kilt. It is a tradition to wear white knee socks. The patron saint of Scotland is St Andrew.

Regions We can divide Scotland into three regions:
in the north – the Highlands in the center – Central Lowlands in the south – Southern Uplands

„Nessie“ There are lots of lakes in Scotland. The Scottish call them „lochs“. The most famous ones are Loch Lomond and Loch Ness with the tourist attraction monster“Nessie“that was first sighted in 6th century.

Sports Very popular sport in Scotland is football but the Scots love also their traditional sports like curling, rugby, tossing the hammer or tug-of- war.
