They are therefore a crucial aspect of the Australian Government’s focus on improving healthcare outcomes. The Government’s costs for funding pathology services through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) have increased in recent years, having grown at an average annual rate of 7% between 2000/01 and 2006/07.
