Alfred Nobel was born in Stockholm on 21st October 1833
Alfred Nobel was born in Stockholm on 21st October His father was an engineer and inventor. In connection with his work of a builder, he experimented with different explosives. He worked in Finland and in Russia where he designed naval mines to be used in defending the port against the enemy naval ships. His sons were given a very good education in natural science, languages and literature. Alfred was especially interested in English poetry and literature but his father wanted him to join his business as an engineer and so he sent him abroad for further training. In Paris Alfred became interested in a new invention of nitro-glycerine and its possible use in construction work. Unfortunately it turned to be very dangerous and several persons were killed during the experiments. That didn’t stop Alfred to experiment with different additives and in 1867 he patented his new material under the name of dynamite. EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

The market for dynamite grew rapidly and Alfred Nobel became a very successful businessman. He founded factories and laboratories in more than 20 countries. By the time of his death he had 355 patents He didn’t have much time left for private life and he never married. All his life he was interested in social and peace-related matters. He believed that science would be used to benefit the mankind. Alfred Nobel died in San Remo in In his will he left instructions to constitute a fund, the interest of which is annually divided into five parts and distributed as prizes.
