The name Halloween comes from “All Hallow Even“ , which is an evening before All Hallows Day. The festival is originated in Celtic times. In fact, nobody knows exactly why this night has been celebrated for centuries. According to the Celts the day meant the beginning of the dark season. Their year consisted of the light and dark part. 4 People lit candles to remember their deceased.
The Celts used bonfires to frighten the evil spirits away. This night was especially dangerous because the line between our and spirit world was very weak. The bonfires kept people safe so they could feast and dance all night. Lanterns or carved pumpkins at the door were used to stop various monsters from entering the house. They could not do any harm to people. People lit candles to remember their deceased. EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/
