Tematický okruh Anglicky mluvící země – Spojené státy americké (historie, politika, společnost) Anotace DUM je určen studentům 3. ročníku OA, EL, TL a STA. Srozumitelnou a zábavnou formou seznamuje studenty se Spojenými státy americkými, především s jejich historií, kulturou a politikou. Metodický pokyn V první části DUMu, která je vedena výkladovou formou, jsou studenti seznámeni se základními informacemi o USA. V druhé části si studenti mohou ověřit získané znalosti v interaktivních cvičeních. 3rd biggest country in the world (after Russia and Canada) consists of 50 states: 48 together + Alaska (separated by Canada) + Hawaii (in the Pacific Ocean) the capital city is Washington D.C. (= District of Columbia) currency: dollar ($), 1 dollar = 100 cents languages: English and Spanish (in southern states) population of 300 million = the USA is called ´the Melting pot´  72% white, 13% African-american, 5% Asian, ONLY!!! 1% native inhabitants - Indians EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

5 HISTORY 1492 – the continent was ´officially´ discovered by Christopher Columbus (but Vikings came long time before him) 1620 – Pilgrim fathers came to settle the continent and built first villages there 18th century – War of Independence  the settlers wanted to become independent on Britain 4th July 1776 – the Declaration of Independence was signed and the United States of America was founded, with George Washington as the first president 1840´s – the California´s Gold Rush EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

6 – the Civil War (the South was fighting against the North  they did not want to prohibit slavery) 1942 – Pearl Harbour in Hawaii was attacked by the Japanese army – the Korean War – the Vietnam War 11th September 2001 – the World Trade Centre in New York was attacked by terrorists  since then the USA has been fighting against terrorism in Afghanistan or Iraq EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/

7 a federal republic which consists of 50 states
POLITICAL SYSTEM a federal republic which consists of 50 states the head of state is the President who has quite big power in his hands  is elected every 4 years the 44th president (2012) is Barack Obama 2 leading parties: the Democrats (Obama) and the Republicans the law-making body (government) is called Congress (seats in Washington)  is divided into 2 parts: the House of Representatives the Senate (2 members for each state) the judicial power is in hands of the Supreme Court the USA has the federal law = the same for all the states, but each state has also its own laws that are different (driving, sex, drinking alcohol) in some states  the capital punishment (trest smrti) EU peníze školám CZ.1.07/1.5.00/
