Giant panda Giant pandas live in a few mountain areas in central China. They once lived in a lownland (1) areas, but human activities such as farming and forest clearing pushed (2) giant pandas into the mountains. It is one of the most critically endangered species in the world. There are only about left in the wild. More than 160 pandas live in Zoos and breeding (3) centres. Zoos help save giant pandas from extinction.(4)

WWF symbol The world largest conservation organisation WWF uses panda as its symbol. The giant panda, a black- and –white bear has a body typical of bears an it has black fur on its ears, eye patches(5), muzzle (6), legs and shoulders. The rest of its coat is white. The wild giant panda eats almost only bamboo. Pandas need to consume from 9 to 18 kilograms of bamboo each day. They spend more than 10 hours a day eating. The rest of the day they sleep.
