Some holidays and traditions are the same as the American or the British and some are different.

3 Christmas in the Czech Republic

Preparations include cleaning and baking Christmas cookies and cakes. Christmas tree is decorated. If you don´t eat meat on this day, you will see the "golden pig" in the evening. A traditional dish is fried carp with potato salad. After Christmas dinner, presents are opened. Some people go to church later in the evening for midnight mass.

4 Christmas in Great Britain

Then they throw these letters into the fire. December 24 is called Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day (December 25), children get up as early as possible in the morning. They open the gifts which were left there by Father Christmas the night before. When all the gifts are opened, Christmas dinner is eaten. This is turkey and desert: Christmas pudding. Christmas pudding is traditionally prepared a long time before Christmas. When it is served on Christmas day, some brandy can be poured over it and flamed.

Christians remember the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Easter eggs are given as presents. They symbolize a new life. In the Czech Republic boys go from house to house and hit girls with sticks.

This day celebrates America´s independence from Great Britain. America became independent in The first President of the United States was George Washington. lots of fireworks

9 The Queen’s Official Birthday

It is named after Guy Fawkes who wanted to blow up the Parliament. He was arrested, quartered and thrown onto a bonfire.  There are lots of fireworks Bonfires

It was first celebrated by the Pilgrim Fathers, who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on their fist harvest ( helped by the Native Americans). Nowadays the whole family gets together. It is celebrated by a traditional dinner: roast turkey.
