Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) influential American novelist and short story writer born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota he was a very ambitious child his first piece of writing (a detective story) came out in the school newspapers when he was 13 studied at Princeton University, but dropped out of the school (devoted more time to writing at the expense of his coursework) he fell in love with Zelda Sayre, the daughter of an Alabama Supreme Court judge, whom he married he lead a turbulent life, started drinking heavily and became an alcohol addict died of a heart attack at the age of 44
