Mark Twain born on November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri Samuel Langhorne Clemens when he was 4, his family moved to Hannibal, a town situated on the Mississippi river his father worked as a lawyer and storekeeper and it is said that young Tom never saw his father laugh, people often described his father as an unsmiling fellow when he died unexpectedly, his family got into economic struggle both childhood on the Mississippi river and lack of money shaped his literary career

Mark Twain the town of Hannibal inspired the creation of the town called St. Petersburg introduced in his famous novels Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn in 1859 he became a licensed steamboat pilot on the Mississippi his promising career was stopped by the outbreak of the Civil War Twain supported the Confederate Army in 1861, in search for excitement and money he headed for the great American West became a reporter for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise
Mark Twain soon became one of the best storytellers in America unique writing style: funny, friendly but often satirical in 1867, took a five-month cruise in the Mediterranean and wrote a book out of the trip called The Innocents Abroad, which became a bestseller and Twain one of the most popular and famous writers in America in 1870, he married Olivia Langton, a daughter of a wealthy cool merchant the couple settled in Buffalo and had four children
Mark Twain thanks to his works, especially The Adventures of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, Twain became a famous celebrity of the late 19th century often photographed and applauded travelled overseas and gave lectures received public honours: degrees from Yale and Oxford University his dream of being rich and having high social status came true
