2 I. Polar bears Wild animals have hard lives. They have to find food and homes. They must be strong to fight enemies, diseases and protect their young. Some of them live in very difficult weather conditions. Polar bear is the largest meat – eater. It can be over 3.5 m tall (when he stands). It weights about 450 kg (rarely 800 kg). Polar bear eats seals, fish, seabirds, sometimes caribou. They are good swimmers. They can float 65 km. Polar bears live between 25 – 30 years. Their home – Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. The temperature can be - 88°C and the ice is up to 4.7 m deep. Polar bears spend most of their lives in the Arctic Ocean and on the ice. They have a very thick fur coat which protects them from cold and help them to keep warm. They are able to stay under the water for 2 minutes.
