In 1963 Simon´s graduating from college, they found prominence as part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene. (songs – “Sparrow“, “Bleecker Street“, “He was My Brother“) Soon they were spending their free time at folk music clubs and in 1965 produced their first major hit “The Sounds of Silence“

They met in elementary school in 1953, when both appeared in the school play Alice in Wonderland (Simon as the White Rabbit and Garfunkel as the Cheshire Cat). They were classmates at Parsons Junior School and Forest Hills High School – began performing together (their junior year-as Tom and Jerry. The recording studio was named by Simon as Jerry Landis and Garfunkel as Tom Graph The duo began writing their own songs in 1955 and made their first professional recording (“Hey, Schoolgirl“)
