James Watt 1765 It was invented by James Watt in 1765 and soon was used in mines to pump up water and in other industrial processes.

He was born into a poor family of a worker who didn’t earn enough money for education of his six children. When seventeen-year-old George started working in mines as an engineman, he realized the importance of education and paid himself for evening classes to learn reading, writing and arithmetic.
